MONSTER FISH! - BIG BLACK SNAKEHEAD

First and foremost, let me introduce myself to everyone. I’m AresOG and I’m currently one of the newer administrators to this immensely prospering guide. I started playing Fishing Superstars almost 2 weeks ago and I've been hooked ever since! (No pun intended) Since then, I've been searching for a comprehensive guide and luckily our great moderators John The Fisherman and Garret Land have started just that! Please, give thanks to two great people who seek only to enhance the gaming experience and make it a fun and enjoyable game we can all play.

(There aren't any pictures or videos of this. Surprisingly, the only thing a iPhone can do that my Droid can’t do is take a simple screen shot) go figure.

Now for the main course!

This is going to be my experience with a “Monster Fish” that accentuates exactly what Garret Land has kindly requested each and every one of you to submit to us so we can all learn!

My gear during the whole ordeal:

Time: All day

Date: Oct. 8th 2012

Location: My apartment

Clothing In-Game used: I’m currently equipped with the “Star Seeker” package with a minimum +2 on all

Rod used: “Shark the Blood” (+6)

Bait used: S-Minnow

Preparations: I made sure my screen was clean and sticky-free; I didn't want to be restricted to reeling in as fast as I could because of oils or everyday grim that was on it. I also made sure I was in a spot that I wouldn't get disconnected due to poor reception. And finally, make sure you’re in a comfortable spot where ergonomics are a must. You don’t want the fish to be at 12% and then you lose connection. (Twice, twice this has happened to me.)

The Battle

This battle literally took me all day to finally get accomplished. But long story short, I finally caught this fish right before I went to bed.

From what I know, if you are currently hunting down the Big Black Snakehead then you should be aware of this. The fish starts off strong and aggressive. I noticed that it didn't matter how far you casted out as long as you made it a perfect / excellent cast. I recommend you cast to the nearest “circles”. TRY to get a perfect hook-up because it will bring the fish down to 80%. (HELPS A LOT!)

Then, you must be extremely patient. The strategy I used to catch it was just by slightly letting go of the reel for a moment as the fish’s status turned to flashing red or a steady red. The point of letting go for a moment is to not let the reel gain tension as this will make it shoot straight up and the line will break.
Use of the skill bar at the bottom was my main choice of attack. I kept the tension bar 2/3 of the way full because this allowed me to start building my skill bar as soon as the fish’s status turned orange or green.

Personally, I had the fish down to 5% at 23.5m out. I did my final skill attack and it was over with… or was it? I started to reel in feeling excited when 19.4m out he revived himself. The fish revived back to 40% and it started all over. My suggestion is that you make sure you SAVE your last skill use if you can and save it for when he revives and he’s too far out.

My fish revived around 3 times but I finally managed to reel him all the way in after doing exactly what was mentioned above.

Hopefully this helps everyone out.

The moderators here are looking forward to fan submissions of similar experiences! Feel free to add comments.

From myself and the other admins, Happy Fishing!

I was a level 27 at the time (now 28) and the battle took roughly 10 minutes. But everyone might have a different experience. Good luck everyone!

Update! I just now caught "Monster Pike" at Riffe Valley. Same technique was used! HF!

Mmm...my boyfriend has a droid and he can make screen shoots.

For screen shots on droid press home button plus lock button :) iphone sux, droid ruless

Filip... This statement is incorrect. please research this more and comment what phone you are using. I have a droid x2 and this method does not work nor does it work for all droids. Each phone is different.

I thought this was just for other Droids. I have a Droid RAZR and my method for taking a screen shot is hold the power button and volume down button (according to google) yet, my phone still can't do it. And yes, Droid does rule.

I just caught the black snakehead myself. How do I upload the pictures?

My story: Level 20 with rider package. Level 2 on everything except rod which is level 4. Using S-minnow. I was actually trying to catch the regular snake head for the mission where you catch 10. The regular snakehead had become a common catch and couldn't seem to get rid of them when trying to catch other fish (bass) for missions. Well now that I wanted the regular snakeheads, of course, they are no where to be found. Instead, I keep hooking the black snake head. I took a screen shot of each failed attempt at hooking him. There are several and I wasn't able to keep in on the line more than 10 seconds ever. I finally decided to cast in as short as possible hoping to stay away from him and catch the regular snake head. Instead I hooked him again. This time he was close enough and I somehow managed to get him landed with out ever wearing him down and letting him revive. I wish I could tell you the secret but I have no idea how I got that lucky. If the mods want to send me an email address I will gladly provide the pictures for them to upload here. I am friends with wh0r3 and GarretL from here, I do not know if I will be in your top 10 list of friends but it is my biggest fish (right around 200cm) so it should show hopefully. Screen name is bb00th (those are zeroes.)

Congrats bb00th!
Please attach the pictures to an email and send it to one of us. We will gladly post it! Thank you for your contribution! We hope to hear more stories from Monster Hunters like yourself! Keep up the good work!

b00th..what are your overall stats?? stats on the training page that is (not detailed view). i am only using low end gold equipment and pole still (saving my gold right now lol), but i have 435 attack, 375 skill, 245 strength, 3 luck..i hook him everytime (if i use s-minnow to try for snakeheads, i get him EVERY time) but i have not tried goin really short yet..just curious on your stats to even attempt again cause i am tired of wasting minows lol. you are also lvl 20, im 26.

Now that I think about it. Catching a Monster Fish and taking an in-action screenshot at the same time is an accomplishment all on it's own. Hahah. My email is:

Email sent, a few of them turned out black but I sent some of the missed ones so you can see the varying size he comes. I still can't catch a regular snake head now and only hook him to be promptly beaten. My stats are ATT 759 skill 668 Str 501 Luck 70 and by no means am I capable of catching him on a regular basis. I will be the first to admit that I got lucky that time.

Neked said...

i have caught 11 snakeheads total...all on A Worm bait..u just have to cast MAX and get excellent or perfect..most of the time u will get bass or bluegill though. it takes a LOT of energy to get snakeheads lol.

Please help how do I fish at premium sites?

Thank you

AresOGadmin said...

Hi Aris,

I'm assuming you have only one fishing rod. You aren't allowed to fish with the rod you're equipped with so you must get two. Get a cheap one and equip it; use your better rod for premium fishing.

Go to your equipment, click upgrade, and there should either be a Request button or a Buy button.

I tried few times but all failed. Every time, that monster revived 3-5 times and I just couldn't reel it in. Though I didn't give up, the game hanged at last (may be the fight was too long?!).

Could any one can give me a hint on how to reel it in succeessfully??? Many thanks.

Well I can't believe I tried so many times to catch this thing while I was at like level 5!

At level 35 I finally decided to go get this guy. It only took one fight, but it still took a good 20min and he revived himself SIX times! The final time he was 5ft away from the boat, suddenly came back to life, and came so close to breaking the line I had to let him run out to 30ft!
As much as I like having him in my aquarium, just one is enough for me :) As for advice...there really isn't any. Do the same as all the other fish you catch. If you can keep him at 2/3 tension when you reel that helps. I think I used the skill (my son calls it "whapping" at least 10 times. Although it only knocked off like 10%, every little bit helps. A perfect hook set goes a long ways also.

AresOGadmin said...

Congrats Stubbz!

I had the exact same thing happen to me with another fish a couple of days ago. With in inches! ! He revives and instantaneously goes into beast mode while I try desperately to reel him in and the line breaks. So close.. The one that got away. Luckily you caught your fish though. Until the next, Happy Fishing!

Hahahah i give up on him!!!!!!! I hooked one this afternoon my partner made sure the kids stayed away from me and i had a 3 hour and 15min battle closes i had him in was 10m and he snaped my line. My partner is trying now lol

Was an easy win for me. Got it with minnow while DESPERATELY trying to get to hook up a Snakehead (out of 10 cats, was "attacked" by 4 blacks IN A ROW. God I was praying this one to be a normal snakehead so hard lol. Failed the first 3 due to not being familiar with their pattern and the fact that holding more that 4 seconds will break the line. failed at 67%,47% and Revived 34% respectively.) This last one was easy. Perfect cast @ 34m, perfect pull (2550 damage at S rank-meaning this thing has around 17500 hp in total) and green starter. Used about 6 skills (each with 464 damage) and around 100 normal reeling hits (+-70 damage). I have to say my retapping skills is pretty good as I can control the re tapping to be less than .3 meter. This thing is green and yellow 20% of the time. I took it down with a final skill to drop it to 3% and reeled it in without it dying at all, thus no revival chance at all. Whole battle too less than 4 minutes. Also just a small thing to note, u can't "save" a skill for later - the damage of the skill will drop drastically within seconds. Only advice on saving a skill is to charge it up to around 90% when its dead. ID: Cakexxxx. The black is currently in my aquarium so do add me to practice fish with it lol

question is....can we catch monster fish more than once? i have been trying to catch another big black snakehead and have not hooked another one in 11 casts..wasting my left over pumpkin bait lol.

Drewz said...

I caught a Big Black Snakehead (SS rank) yesterday @ level 30 without a perfect cast. I'm equip with cool beach set (level 2) and a Dual Infinity Rod (level 4) and the fish was at 100%. It was a tough fight as i was trying to bring down to last 5% times, i did the skill i thought it was over. It was my first time catching it, and the next thing i know it revived back to 40%. Basically, it took me almost 15 - 20 minutes to catch this monster (Revive: 6 times) :(
